The Community Service Bursary will be expanded in 2017-18. Recently, the Province’s Youth Future Council recommended changes to the program which have been adopted by the Province. Specifically, the following changes will be made:
· Grade ten students will now be able to accumulate hours (including hours volunteered in the summer before they begin grade 10)
· The maximum amount a student can get the bursary for will be increased to 150 hours (for a total of $750)
The Student Financial Services office will still require each student to fill out a Community Service Bursary Student/Organization Service Agreement but will no longer require this form to be submitted prior to the student accumulating hours.
From July 22nd to July 23rd Saint Mary’s University will be hosting an annual Out-of-Province Grade 11 Event. This event is designed as an opportunity for grade 11 students who are heading into their grade 12 year to fully experience a university environment and what Saint Mary’s has to offer. Students and their parents stay on campus, attend sessions highlighting the student services at Saint Mary’s, have a guided campus tour, and a tour of Halifax. All accommodations and food are provided. This event is open to all grade 11 students living more 2 hours drive outside of Halifax. Students can register for the event by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at email@example.com.
